寺伝 (temple history)

延元5年(1340年)万木源左衛門尉久縄と申す者、東国より来り.

出家して真言宗に入り、草庵を立て万木山と号す.

寛正5年(1464年)蓮如上人に帰依し、浄土真宗に帰す.

以來、万木庵を真宗総道場とし、明応5年(1496年)圓常寺と改む.

In 1340, a man who called YURUGIGEN-SAEMONJO-HISANAE arrived from the east of Japan.He became a monk of Shingon-sect and built its temple, named Mt.BANBOKU-ZAN.

In 1464, the temple took refuge in rennyo-shonin so that it belonged to Shin buddhism.

Since then, the temple has been an important place for the local community, renamed ‘Enjoji temple’ in 1496.
